€2k Guarantee

Posted by: GrimFandango » 15 Mar 2010, 22:48

Tomorrow's €2,000 Guarantee freeroll looks like it might become one of our highest value tournaments held to date! If you're close to making the requirement, don't forget that qualifying late is allowed as long as you give notice at least an hour ahead of time (the chat is your best bet, alternatively you can use our contact form or send me a PM.)

For those of you catching the odd news post amidst the recent flood of spam (more on this later..) may remember that we had a [url=http://www.oneak.net/2/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3351]VIP Challenge{/url] back in February, where the top 5 VIP point earners would be granted a seat as well as extra starting chips depending on position. The final results were, in order from 1st to 5th:

1. betsters (4,500 chips)
2. blendino (4,000 chips)
3. Sandiero (3,750 chips)
4. logitecoak (3,500 chips)
5. rorymc11 (3,250 chips)

The players will be manually added to the tournament tomorrow with the chipstacks noted above. Regularly qualified players start with 3,000 chips.

In addition to these players, there were a few players with 200+ VIP in the period that will receive their password for the tournament along with regularly qualified players (500+ VIPs since the last monthly freeroll) tomorrow. Not sure whether you're eligible? Easiest way to check is to log in to Mets Poker and go to Cashier -> My Transactions -> Poker VIP Transactions, where you'll be able to set the proper date range (Feb. 23rd - 28th) and check for your self. If you're above 200 you should receive the password automatically tomorrow.

Otherwise, we've also given our Swedish sister site Swepkr.com the same opportunity as OAK players to qualify via the VIP challenge (not the monthly 500 VIP though), but the extended value of the tournament should far outweigh the increased competition, especially since they're mostly Swedes.. ;)

PS! I decided to withhold the VIP scores of the winners as that may be considered private data by some, but in the interest of transparency: If you had 200+ points in the period and/or are on the list you can send me a PM for more detailed disclosure. The winners are naturally free to post their scores in the comments section as well.

UPDATE:
I forgot to mention that the planned 1 VIP tournaments to qualify for today's €2k and our EMOP promo unfortunately had to be canceled due to the same tedious changes in the formal procedure of setting up tournaments (also affecting last week's freeroll satellite.) All this has been resolved now for anyone worrying about future tournaments.

IN OTHER NEWS:

About spam: This problem is going to go away for good with the publishing of OAK Leaderboard, which will also contain a few other overall site changes such as placing a chat box in the right-hand column (like "old OAK"), a fix for the login/logout problem and a few other wrinkles and creases, and of course... proper league pages and information/schedule etc. for the leaderboard itself.

When? The answer is hopefully this week, but this is a pretty major overhaul and a work in progress. Since it's hard to foresee the number of speed bumps we'll encounter down the final stretch, we're not going to set a fixed date even though things are shaping up now.

UPDATE:
Among the above mentioned changes to the site will be a new reporting system for our extended Bubble Guarantee, that will make reporting/receiving much easier: Click a button, select the tournament you busted in from a drop-down list, get money within 24 hours. That's it. :)

Also, our weekly freeroll satellites will remain in their current form for the rest of this month before we change the structure a little to make the prize pools more differentiated. The primary reason for changing the structure is to reward higher placements (as opposed to equal prizes for top 5 today) to make the end game more exciting for players competing on OAK Leaderboard.

REST ASSURED THAT YOUR SCORE IS BEING KEPT TRACK OFF THOUGH!

That includes extra points for those finishing high in last year's leaderboard and bonus points to those missing last week's freeroll satellite.) There is potentially a lot of value in picking up points in the early OAK tours, so get 'em while you can!

The Mystery of the Missing Freeroll Satellite...

Posted by: GrimFandango » 12 Mar 2010, 22:03

So...

I'm guessing a lot of you (24 of you to be exact!) are wondering where Wednesday's freeroll satellite and its intended replacement the day after went missing. Well, to spare you of any technical and boring details concerning the inner workings of setting up tournaments on Entraction, let's just say there's been some changes in routines making the process of ordering tournaments somewhat more difficult than before, and leave it at that before I start swearing...

HOWEVER, on the upside, once sorted out, this should lead to a greater stability in terms of scheduled tournaments since we'll simply just pre-schedule more of them and the process of sending passwords has also been simplified to ensure that someone always should be able to be around and get them out there in a timely fashion.

As for those affected, we can only say we're deeply sorry; I tried really hard to get a replacement up yesterday where the intention was to add a headhunter bonus on yours truly, but well, it just didn't go through due to above-mentioned technical and boring details.

So, instead ALL qualified players for the tournament has now been transferred €20 to their player accounts (available in Cashier, not in the poker balance mind you) as compensation. The regular value of a freeroll satellite is €375, so with 24 qualified players the value for a single entrant would be €375 / 24 = €15,62, but due to the inconvenience and mess we felt we had to add a little extra and €15,62 would be a weird sum anyway...

In the interest of full disclosure, here's the list of qualified players that have received €20 to their accounts:

Qualified players for Wednesday's freeroll satellite wrote:*con

Finally, all listed players will be credited with €30 / 30 points on OAK Leaderboard. Speaking of which, yes, it will soon be published! (Along with a few other changes to improve OAK and hopefully make the site easier and more fun to use.)

BIG-OAK Signing Off :(

Posted by: BIG-OAK » 21 May 2010, 20:28

Hey all OAKers and OAK/Mets owners...

This is a sad day for me. I have to leave OAK now, I get sad every time I log in on this site, because I was here "centuries" ago, when it was all a lot better and seeing how it is now is just crap imo.

Nothing happens here, no updates and the community feeling has gone. Yes, there is a lot of value in staying, with less OAK players, but I must admit that it is not worth it anymore, considering that I get sad/angry.

Some of us have given ideas and complaints in the OAK2010 thread, but no and/or slow actions are taken from the OAK admins. Grim promised a new "idea" thread, but no thread is made. I have tried to get things going through my blog and the OAK chat --> no response in my last blog thread :(

OAK admins: you know I love OAK and you know I love you guys. I hope that you use my goodbye (for now) in a constructive and positive way, to make it all run again. For some months, since summer last year and until early year of 2010 I have been more or less the "glue"/"actionman" at OAK. You have gotten nothing for FREE from me the last months and see where we are now. Talk about value, hehe. Well you know where to find me and you know the price :P

I will now go different ways, still with a decent Bankroll ofcourse, no worries. I think it is around 3k€ now after some withdrawals and stuff. And ELMA: I never go broke like you, because I have skills. If you also use BRM the you can win some here and there too m8, but please try to losen up a bit, instead of your child ABC tightass poker and please begin to recognize old man that it is possible to outplay, hit and own with hands like 36s, j9s etc. You just have to play them correctly, and know when to hold'em and when to fold'em :P

It has been quite a fairytale for me here at OAK I must admit. For a period of 1½ year, when the OAK Leaderboard was a standard here at OAK, I managed to win it 3 times (3 months period every time), get 2nd twice and 4th once I think. I have also gone from a 20€ BR to a period of having 200-300€ BR, to have a BR from 2-6k€ in almost 2 years, with a few ok withdrawals from time to time. I think my Tour wins overall are 75k$, with 25k$ in profit plus some cash profit here and there, not to forget my winnings at OAK on Pokerhills (my sharkscope on PH is fucked up btw, I don't know why, so do not rely on it if you check). On the other hand I also must admit that it has been tooooo many ITM that are not in top2-3 in the BIG Entraction (b2b) tours. I don't know why, but I sincerely think that my varians here has been a bit unfair/UL. E.g. I have lost on the 10k FT with AA vs AK, 5 players left. Another 10k FT AA vs Q9 and so on... Nonetheless I have had a couple of top3/4 results in the 50k sunday, I have won the 20.30/23.00 WW alot of times, alot of top results in daily 8k, I have won/top3 the daily 10k several times (2nd deal the other day) etc. I also see myself as a decent and winning PLO cash player now. Alot of this has come from OAK, where I have learned to get better and better, especially in the OAK tours and eg. through the 10k seats from OAK sats/DK-T 50% staking.

Thank you all for the last couple of years. Thank you to those who gave me and my wife a little gift for our wedding. Thank you OAK for letting me be Translator/Moderator (I am ready again when you get really going again OAK). Thank you OAKers for many funny hours together. Thank you DK-T for believing in me in a exciting period of my short poker carrier. Thank you White for many talks through msn etc. Thank you DD for all your hugs and my 3-1 win against you HU :P Thank you all for letting me be a part of your OAK experience.

Sadly OAK is not what I want it to be right now, therefore I must leave for a while, take a break from here. Feel the nature/summer around me. I even consider beginning to paint again. Fix more stuff in my new house. Play more with the kids. Nail my wife more often. Work a lot. Watch more soccer in TV.

I also have a little thing going with new possibilities of me blogging elsewhere for staking/money, as I have been doing here at OAK almost for free (imo ofcourse grim :P ). I need to take this step now as I see it.

In addition to this I also am gonna play alot more live. I am thinking about going to Spring Poker Tour in Vejle on Wednesday - it is a 1100kr tour with 400 players. I will play more of these tours the next year or so, to see how it goes. I will also play the danish online championship (Online DM) May 2010 for 200€/300€, where I hope to get a FT ;)

Maybe we will see eachother again I hope, but things here at OAK need to change!

Ps. Grim: If I have something coming from the OAK L or Aff. etc. then please send it to my account :P :bouncy2:

OAK Update

Posted by: BIG-OAK » 01 May 2010, 13:21

Well wanted to wait with a new blog here until the day I saw some new updates here on OAK (OAK L etc.), but nothing happens

Well when are you going to do something here at OAK again Grim and co.?

This is not good enough imo...

I think I have won something on the montlhy OAK leaderboard, and what is the status in the overall 3 months leaderboard?

Light at the end of the tunnel

Posted by: Whiteflag-DK » 10 Apr 2010, 17:08

Hey all

The last month or so has been somehow a struggle for me, pokerwise! We all know the signs.... a few bad beats, poor decisions followed by what seems like a maountain of bad beats, lack of confidence, lack of patience and still worse decisions - and before you can spell d-o-w-n-s-w-i-n-g all you do in the tourneys is involving yourself in coinflips at best for the whole stack at level 1 or 2 of every tourney! At least I am like that sometimes....

Obviously, this leads to a downswing and though I have been a little more disciplined during this one, I have still lost more than 500€ :-( during the end of March and the beginning of April. However (and ofc there's a good ending to all the sadness), This week has been the absolute opposite of the downswing. I am now suddenly super-confident, patient, takes the right decisions and do not let silly coinflips decide my tournament lifes ;)..... As far as I remember, since last Monday, my results have been as follows;

Monday:
18:20 4K Guaranteed 10€ rebuy - 2nd place by 4-way deal 664€
18:20 5€ 100€/2K Guaranteed-satellite - SEAT WON
20:00 2K Guaranteed 100€ - 7th place 171€

Tuesday:
18:20 4K Guaranteed 10€ rebuy - 7th place 159€
19:30 2K Guaranteed 20€ Freeze - 3rd place 225€

Wednesday:
Only played the OAK-Satellite and even though I never had a stack larger than 4K, I booked a 10K-seat!

Friday:
20:10 8K Guranateed 10€ rebuy - 14th place 150€
21:00 10K Guaranteed - 13th place 223€

Saturday (so far):
13:30 1,5K Guaranteed 10€ rebuy - 3rd place 290€

The good thing is that I honestly haven't played much more than these tours - ofc there has been a few other ones, but I suddenly feel on top of my game and ready to cash in whatever tourney I register ;)

Life is all better at the end of the tunnel - gl everyone at the tables!

Playing it hard - Playing good - Winning NADA

Posted by: BIG-OAK » 12 Mar 2010, 13:05

Well I have been very busy with my family and work (London) the last 10-12 days, therefore no update from me here. But I have had time for some tour playing after all and some plo cash games of course :)

I have actually managed to get a lot of final tables in my tours, but again and again UL and from time to time my relatively low stack has ruined it all. On the other hand I have lost some on plo cash and the “expensive” 10k guaranteed. In the OAK tours I have been “itm” the last 4 tours that I have had time for, so still no worries there; I still own you all - nothing new here, hehe but lucky for you guys I will not be able to have time for the OAK Leaderboard in 2010 as I see it.

Even though I have had so many final tables, I think it has been in 30-40% of my games, I am not up at all in my BR. This is because I have had no top 2 finishes and because I have lost in the 10k + the plo games.

Warning! From no on this will be a whining thread:

The 10k has been unfair by all means. I have played 4 of these in 14-16 days, all of them losing near the money with great UL or setups. One of them was QQ vs KK vs AA. Another was 5555 lose to 7777. Then AK vs QK. Second nut flush vs nut flush. It has been hard and therefore also very expensive. In all of the tours I could have been in top 5, if I had won the hand. From now on I will not reload when I win a 10k seat in OAK and I will not buy in directly - I must proof my worth in 20€-40€ tours first, since (as I have told you earlier) my BR is under pressure, because of some withdrawals and some loses.

In plo I have been so UL, you will not believe it. The other day I lost 300€ (6 BI), when I should have been 300€-500€ up - at least (some hands were 3 handed). I flopped nuts and lost 5 out of 6 on the river, 100-200€ pots in 0.25/0.5 and one pot I lost on turn. It kept on and on, and I was lolling in the chat. It made no sense at all - crap math. I outplayed them all, but had to see my fine odds on flops/turn cards vanish like a rainbow vanishes, when the sun is suddenly hidden by clouds - river crap - crappy sun!

Well I do not give up on plo, but again, back to basics, I can only invest 12€ pr. table from now on - for a while I hope.

In the other tours like 8k, ww, 20€ freeze etc. it has been great. I have been playing optimal BIG-OAK poker and I have been on FTs a lot, but no top 2 places. The best and weirdest tour was a 8k tour, where I struggled getting on the FT. 10 players left I have QQ and the bb/sb is huge and I am just under average. Of course I take my chances vs. utg all in, which was 99. But bb CL had AA…. Turn gave me nut flush draw, but river Q = house - wow finally I am lucky and I could enter FT as 5th. This continued and I could take 3 players out on FT, still by some nice hitting and a little luck. Then 3 left, 800 e for nr. 3 and 2,1k e for nr 1, I look down in AQ. I am sb, bb is 50k. Utg goes all in with 200k, I have 600k, CL in bb has 650k. The utg player had been almost out (he had 30k 2 hands before) and he played any two (pot odds value play) so I knew my AQ was ahead in this hand. I call, and he shows J4 - weeeeeee… flop J. I am then down to 200k in utg pos. I go all in with 55, but sb CL has 99. The tour was ruined…. And it is often like this for me and has been in 2009. Crap…

I still believe I will manage getting a big hit soon (before Summer time), but my BR is really under pressure - I hate it when my personal life needs funding from poker - I had a plan for 2009, which for the time being is totally messed up. But if I could build a bit more than I have now, then there still is a chance, hehe. 20k e BR here I come - gogogogogo.

Looking forward to The Champions League ;)

Posted by: Whiteflag-DK » 06 Mar 2010, 18:08

Hey all

As indicated in the heading, I am really looking forward to the Champions League to really get going again. The winter break is such a pain, but it's all forgotten now ;). There are really more than a few exciting 2nd legs as far as I see it. The Barca-match vs Stuttgart should be a lock really. Even though they are challenged by injuries at the moment, Barca have to prove their class at home after admittedly having a lucky draw away. Of other good match-ups, I predict an intense affair for United when AC Milan drops by - even though it looks like a walkover for The Reds, Milan should not be underestimated and probably want to revenge their homefield defeat! Also Chelsea will be challenge against Inter. I sincerely hope that Inter can withstand the pressure they will get at Stanford Bridge.... Goooo Inter!

Finally I really cross my fingers for Lyon - and quite frankly I like their chances. Having a 1-0 advantage going into the match against Real Madrid might not look that secure and probably isn't, but the thing is Real didn't manage to score in France which can prove vital! I have no doubt Real will produce a ton of chances and also score on some of them, but they also have a tendency to slip in at least one goal in the other end - if that happens (and I desperately hope so) Real have to make 3 goals themselves which might not be as easy as it sounds ;)

Pokerwise life is still good - even though I cannot get these OAK-sat tickets these days (and more importantly the €-points for the leaderboard), I win more than I loose. Thursday I finished a deep run in the 8K in 3rd place giving me an 800€+ prize.... And just another ago, I made a 3-way deal in the 40€ shorthanded for 300€+...... All I need now is making my horse avoid the badbeats it has experienced lately - he's playing really solid poker, but cannot make any serious attacks on the size of the BR. Hopefully it all turns in the coming days....

Until then - gl at the tables everyone!

Anyway, in addition to our daily v1agra advertisements, I'll try to get out a forum thread tonight informing about "Status OAK" where everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. Hopefully it'll help explain, well, a somewhat "glacial" pace on our part, and while the actual value of our offer is higher now (due to decreased competition), I think we all want a more lively (v1agra-free!) site as well as the infamous OAK Leaderboard and/or some more structure in our offers. However, we are currently discussing a few road choices right now so to speak that I'm hoping to involve you guys in. This is your big chancve to emply the :whip: smiley ;)

That should have been underlined but oh well.. :P .. Tori: NO! At least we shouldn't have, I'll check into the situation. Send me a PM if you have a bubble of your own and just include date/€'s on bubble. ;)

About late passwords tonight: Unfortunately computer systems are, to put it bluntly, fickle bitches! Due to a technical problem related to my IP-address changing I lost 1-2 hours and we had trouble reaching all of you in time due to time pressure.
